LOCATION & PARKING
 
Location:
The first annual TRI Paradise Triathlon will take place in and around Octagon Pond on Topsail Road in the Town of Paradise, Newfoundland.
 
Parking:
All parking for athletes and spectators will be at the Alcan Windows parking lot, the corner of Topsail Road and McNamara Drive. Please do not park along Topsail Rd or at the beach parking lot.
 
RACE SCHEDULE
 
Race package pick-up:
Saturday June 27, 2 - 5 p.m. All race packages must be picked up at the St. John's Running Room store between 2 - 5 p.m. The store is located in St. John's at #9 Rowan Street in Churchill Square.
Bike Check
An optional bike check will take place on race day by Canary Cycle staff.
 
Sunday June 28:
7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Late package pickup, check in, and body marking
Note: ALL ATHLETES MUST CHECK IN PRIOR TO 8:30AM
8:45 a.m. Mandatory pre-race briefing at the beach (FOR ALL ATHLETES).
9:00 a.m. Race Start
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION
 
Swim:
The 1 lap, 750 m (approximately) is a triangular course, swimming clockwise. The swim starts in the water in front of the boat ramp next to the docks.  The swim caps (provided in race package) must be worn throughout the entire swim course to ensure safety of all athletes during this time. The volunteers/lifeguards will line the course. The course will be patrolled by a motorized boat, as well as canoes and kayaks.
Notes: It is highly recommended you bring footwear to run from the swim exit to the bike transition as you will have to a gravel parking lot.
 
Bike:
The 3 lap, 21 km course will head east (right) out of transition along Topsail Rd, passing through three intersections for 2.5 km. Turn south (right) onto the entrance ramp for the Trans Canada Highway. Staying on the shoulder of the highway take the first exit onto Kenmount Rd heading west. Continue along McNamara Drive until reaching Topsail Road. For the second and third lap turn east (right) at the McNamara Drive, Topsail Road intersection. For athletes on their third lap turn west (left) on Topsail Road returning to transition.
Notes: (1) All athletes should familiarize themselves with the route and must ride with caution especially through the three intersections on Topsail Road. Police and volunteers will man the key intersections but the course is NOT closed to traffic. Please be cautious. Draft marshals will patrol the course.
(2)You must count your own laps!
(3)TAKE CAUTION AND STAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD.
 
Run:
The 1 lap, 5 km course winds its way around Octagon Pond on a well groomed gravel trail. Approximately 1 km into the run athletes will run east (runners left) on a side trail for 500 m before hitting a turn around point returning back the pond trail and continuing around the pond until reaching Topsail Road. Continue east (right) on Topsail Rd for 300 m and rejoin the trail around the pond. Before the finish, the trail takes a detour around a house onto Topsail Road. After running 100 m on Topsail Road athletes will enter the finishing shoot by taking a sharp right hand turn into the parking lot next to the docks.
Notes: (1) To ensure an accurate finishing time your race number must be visible on the front of the athlete.
(2) Aid stations will be located at the 1 km and 4 km mark of the run.
 
Awards:
Awards will be given to the top 3 mail and female athletes plus age group medals.
 
Draw Prizes:
Several exciting draw prizes will be drawn for at the race reception. The draw prize list includes:
•    a 1 year membership to Nubodys Fitness Center
•    a 6 month membership to Nubodys Fitness Center

Race Reception:
A BBQ reception will take place in Recreation Center on McNamara Drive 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. All athletes and volunteers are welcome.
 
Results: 
Race results will be posted on the race website within a week of race day.
